As an Aveeno Ambassador I had the privilege to attend the Independent Spirit Awards in LA at the end of February.   Aveeno treated several of us bloggers to an incredible spa day at Exhale Spa.   Instead of their usual products that the spa uses, Aveeno products took over.   It was an opportunity for us to try their new Active Naturals skin care, body care and hair care products while enjoying the luxury of the spa.  I also had a few opportunities afterwards to join in on webinars hosted by Aveeno and Johnson & Johnson to learn about the products and ingredients used from the scientists themselves.

Patrick Melville (shown above at our dinner one evening), is a charming man who is known as a fashion stylist and owner of his eponymous salon in NYC.  He worked with Aveeno to develop the Active Naturals hair care line. The day we were meeting with him at the spa we found out that the next day he would be doing a celebrity’s hair that morning for the ISA’s.

Aveeno Active Naturals hair products come in two formulas, one for colored hair and one for damaged hair.  I chose to try the colored hair version from the line called Living Color, Color Preserving Shampoo and Conditioner.  Within the Living Color hair line there are two formulas available – one for fine hair and one for medium/thick hair.  For the damaged hair line there are 4 different Nourish + formulas; Nourish + Moisturize, Nourish + Revitalize, Nourish + Volumize and Nourish + Shine.

I am surprisingly impressed with how the shampoo and conditioner make my hair feel.  When I also use this I don’t need to worry about ruining the color in my hair.  It says that it keeps the color true up to 40 washes and while I haven’t tried 40 washes in a row, I feel that it does extend the color of my hair (except the annoying grey that tends to creep in)!  From the Nourish + line, I also was a beauty guru that tested the Nourish + Revitalize conditioner for the Redbook Magazine Most Valuable Product Awards and this was a top finalist in the conditioner category.

The other hair care product I use from Aveeno is the new Living Color Color Preserving Shine Glaze.   Although I get a glaze treatment when I have my hair professionally colored, this helps to maintain the shine when I use it about once a week give or take.  I’ve used other home glazing treatments and I like this one much better and it’s less expensive.   Aveeno Active Naturals Living Color hair care line uses Lupine Botanicals, which are part of their natural ingredients used to help preserve color.

My overall thoughts on the Active Natural hair care line by Aveeno is that you know you are getting a great quality product at an affordable price.   I also like the fact that they use so many natural ingredients that are gentle, yet effective.  My hair is left shiny, healthy and if it weren’t for the grey hairs I probably could extend the time between colorings by a few weeks.  I haven’t yet tried any of their styling products, but look forward to giving them a try as well.

As an Aveeno Ambassador I have been given products and opportunities beyond testing products such as attending the ISA’s.  As always, all reviews are my honest opinion and from my experience only.
